General Population

General population performs the business, and is often responsible for the input of data, but not typically the output.

Someone who is data-inclined is not particularly drawn to data for its own sake, but understands the business well. Data-inclined people are capable of asking business questions, and are data-driven, but often have others prepare data for business use.

Data Geek

Data Geeks are drawn to data for its own sake.

A Data Geek is accomplished at sourcing and presenting data, and often has basic software skills like MS Access and Excel. Data Geeks are close to the business and work in a business unit.

A Data Professional is comfortable in all dimensions of data – storage, schema, SQL, and possesses multiple software skills. Data Professionals understand how to prepare data well.
